AFC South Division Winner Odds: Can Anyone Knock Off the Texans-Jaguars Death Match?

The AFC South spent years as the NFL’s punching bag division, but 2026 looks like a legitimate two-horse race with a couple of sneaky spoilers lurking behind it. Houston sits as the favorite at odds ranging from +120 to +155 depending on the book, with Jacksonville breathing down their neck in the +180 to +210 range. After that, it’s a real dropoff to Indianapolis and Tennessee, but both of those teams have just enough intrigue to make the futures betting board worth a second look before you lock in a pick.

Why Houston Still Sits on Top

The Texans have won two of the last three AFC South titles and enter 2026 as the market’s choice again, even after a disappointing divisional-round exit against New England where C.J. Stroud threw four interceptions. Houston’s defense remains the engine of this team, and the front office kept that unit humming by re-signing Danielle Hunter, Sheldon Rankins, and E.J. Speed rather than letting a championship-caliber group get picked apart in free agency. The offensive line is still the swing factor for Stroud, who posted career lows in passing yards and touchdowns last season. Houston moved on from Tytus Howard and brought in Braden Smith and Evan Brown up front, moves that have execs around the league split on whether it actually solves anything. If Stroud rediscovers his 2023 form behind even a marginally better line, the Texans’ defense alone can carry them back to the top of the division.

Jacksonville’s Case to Flip the Script

The Jaguars snapped Houston’s divisional streak in 2025, going 13-4 and getting an MVP-finalist, Comeback Player of the Year-caliber season out of Trevor Lawrence under first-year head coach Liam Coen. That’s the best year of Lawrence’s career, and Coen has been vocal that there’s still more untapped upside there heading into year two of the partnership. The concern for Jacksonville is replacing the production lost when Travis Etienne departed, but a defense and passing attack that carried the Jaguars to the division’s best record last season isn’t going anywhere. Books have Jacksonville priced as a live second choice, and a repeat trip to the playoffs feels close to a lock even if the division crown slips away.

Houston has failed to escape the divisional round three years running — and this offseason’s answer at quarterback and offensive line will determine whether that pattern breaks or repeats.

Top Contenders

Here’s where the four teams stand on the odds board as camp opens:

  • Houston Texans: around +120 to +155 — the defending divisional favorite behind a top-tier defense
  • Jacksonville Jaguars: around +180 to +210 — reigning division champs with Trevor Lawrence trending upward
  • Indianapolis Colts: around +350 to +400 — quietly building something if Daniel Jones stays healthy
  • Tennessee Titans: around +750 to +850 — the deep-value dark horse behind Cam Ward

Don’t Sleep on the Colts (With a Big Asterisk)

Indianapolis was a genuine surprise for much of 2025, riding Daniel Jones to a top-six finish in the league in completion percentage, yards per attempt, and passer rating before a torn Achilles ended his season in Week 14. The Colts rewarded that performance with a two-year, $88 million extension, but Jones is coming off a serious injury and won’t be a sure thing for Week 1. Behind him, Anthony Richardson Sr. and 2025 sixth-round pick Riley Leonard are competing for the backup job, and Richardson’s own vision issues from a freak orbital injury add another layer of uncertainty. If Jones is healthy and playing like he did before the injury, the Colts have enough talent to push both Houston and Jacksonville. If he’s not, this offense could unravel fast.

Tennessee is the longest shot on the board, and for good reason after a 3-14 finish. But Cam Ward gets a full offseason as the unquestioned starter now, and a few oddsmakers like the Titans’ schedule enough to call them a sneaky value play at their current price. It’s not a bet for the faint of heart, but stranger things have happened in a division that’s flipped its balance of power multiple times in the last three years. The Best Bet

Jacksonville’s price of roughly +200 offers the best combination of value and legitimate championship equity in this division. Lawrence is playing the best football of his career, Coen’s system is clearly working, and the defense that carried the Jaguars to 13 wins isn’t disappearing overnight.

  • Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars (+200 to win the AFC South)
  • Value alternative: Indianapolis Colts (+375) if Daniel Jones is full-go by Week 1

Houston’s defense makes them impossible to fully fade, but the questions around Stroud and that offensive line are exactly the kind of thing that keeps a favorite from covering. Jacksonville has the quarterback trending the right direction and the defense to back it up — that combination is worth the shorter price this time around.
