AFC Conference Champion Odds: Ravens and Bills Lead a Wide-Open Race

The 2025-26 New England Patriots proved that AFC titles don’t always follow the script, and sportsbooks are hedging accordingly heading into the new season. The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills sit as co-favorites on most boards, hovering right around +500, but the gap to the rest of the pack is thin enough that a half-dozen teams have a real case.

Where the Market Stands Right Now

DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, and Fanatics all have Baltimore and Buffalo essentially tied at the top, with prices ranging from about +470 to +550 depending on the book. That’s a notable shift from a year ago, when Denver and New England were the ones cutting down the nets in the AFC. Neither of last season’s conference finalists cracks the top four this time, which tells you how much roster turnover and coaching change have scrambled the board. The reigning champion Patriots, fresh off beating the Broncos 13-10 in the AFC title game, are priced anywhere from +650 to +900 depending on the shop — good value for a team that just won the thing, but the market clearly isn’t ready to anoint them a true favorite again.

Top Contenders

Start with the Ravens, who somehow enter the year as the favorite despite missing the playoffs last season. That’s the Lamar Jackson effect — a two-time MVP who’s 20-5 in primetime games since the merger, now paired with new coordinator Jesse Minter after Baltimore moved on from the John Harbaugh era philosophy that never got Jackson past the AFC title game. The catch: Jackson’s $74.5 million cap number and ongoing contract uncertainty (he negotiates without an agent) could complicate roster building around him.

Buffalo is the other half of the co-favorite tandem, and the case writes itself — Josh Allen is coming off a foot procedure but is expected ready for spring workouts, and general manager Brandon Beane has made adding receiver help the clear top priority after another year of Allen carrying a thin skill-position group. The Bills also have an offensive line question to answer, with extending guard O’Cyrus Torrence viewed as a priority to keep Allen protected.

Behind the co-favorites, the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs sit in the +700 to +830 range across most books. Kansas City’s case needs no introduction — the Chiefs have won the AFC in three of the last four seasons, and until someone proves otherwise, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes stay live in every futures conversation. The Chargers have quietly built one of the more balanced rosters in the conference and are priced as a legitimate top-four team rather than an afterthought. Houston, Denver, and Cincinnati round out the next tier around +850 to +1025, each with enough talent to make a run if health and continuity break their way.

Why the Board Looks the Way It Does

This kind of futures betting market rewards patience, and what’s driving Baltimore and Buffalo to the top isn’t just quarterback play — both teams enter the season viewed as complete rosters with clear, fixable question marks rather than fundamental flaws. The Ravens need clarity at guard and another pass rusher; the Bills need another weapon or two for Allen. Those are addressable problems, not rebuilds. Compare that to teams like Cincinnati or Jacksonville, who are priced further down the board because their questions run deeper — whether that’s a defense that has to prove itself or a young core still finding its footing in the postseason.

Jackson is 20-5 in primetime games since the 1970 merger — the best mark of any starting quarterback in that span, minimum 15 starts.

That primetime résumé matters because AFC title games are almost always played in exactly that kind of spotlight environment. It’s a small data point, but it’s the kind of thing that keeps sharp bettors circling Baltimore even with the cap and contract questions hanging over the roster.

Buffalo’s case is simpler: they’ve been the AFC’s most consistent regular-season team for half a decade and just haven’t finished the job. Books are betting that eventually changes.

The Best Bet

The value here isn’t at the top — it’s one tier down. Kansas City at +700-plus offers a real discount on a franchise that has been to the AFC title game in three of the last four years and still has its championship-era quarterback and head coach intact. Betting against Mahomes and Reid at plus-money that generous has been a losing proposition more often than not this decade.

  • Pick: Baltimore Ravens (+500)
  • Value alternative: Kansas City Chiefs (+750)

Baltimore’s talent and Jackson’s ceiling make them the right favorite on paper, but Kansas City’s price tag makes them the sharper bet if you’re looking for value rather than just backing the chalk.
