3 Best Props to Back for Chiefs vs Seahawks on SNF

Walker’s catches, Worthy’s volume and Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s touchdown price headline our three best player props for Chiefs vs Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.

Sunday Night Football brings a heavyweight to Lumen Field, with the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs (5-0) visiting the Seattle Seahawks (3-3) at 8:20 PM ET on NBC. Seattle is a 2.5- to 3-point home favorite and the total sits at 42.5, which is the oddsmaker’s way of telling you to expect a grind. Grinds are great for one thing: player props.

We went through the board and picked the three bets with the best mix of role, matchup and price. Rashee Rice is out for Kansas City, a revenge game is baked into the storyline, and Seattle’s best receiver is running away with the league lead in touchdowns. Here is where we are digging for value.

Kenneth Walker III Over 3.5 Receptions (+129 at DraftKings)

Yes, the headline is the reunion. Walker was the Super Bowl MVP in Seattle last year, and now he walks back into Lumen Field in a Chiefs jersey. Everyone will be looking at his rushing line, but the smarter play is the one hiding in plain sight: catches. Walker has caught 9 passes on 16 targets in his first two games with Kansas City, which means he is not just a handoff machine in Andy Reid’s offense. He is a legitimate outlet.

The matchup backs it up. Seattle ranks second in defensive EPA per play and has gone 35 games without allowing a 100-yard rusher, so the ground game is a tougher road than the box score suggests. When running lanes are narrow, Reid dials up the screens, checkdowns and backfield looks. Seattle has also allowed the fourth-most receptions to running backs this season, and the Seahawks are down linebackers Drake Thomas and Chazz Surratt, which leaves replacement underneath defenders in coverage.

Walker has already scored two receiving touchdowns this year on top of six on the ground, so the Chiefs clearly trust him in the passing game. At plus money, you only need four catches to cash, and he has the usage to get there.

Xavier Worthy Over 4.5 Receptions (-114 at DraftKings)

With Rice sidelined for a second straight game, Worthy is the undisputed WR1 in Kansas City. Last week against the Chargers he caught all seven of his targets for 73 yards and led the offense in both targets and receiving yards. His 19.7% target share is the highest on the team, and he played more snaps than any other Chiefs receiver.

The reason we like receptions over yardage is the way the Chiefs are using him. Much of his Week 6 work came near the line of scrimmage, with quick screens and short throws that function like extended handoffs. That is a high-floor, high-volume role, and it plays well against a Seattle pass defense that is elite at limiting explosive plays but has to give up something underneath. Worthy’s yardage line of 50.5 looks like a coin flip at best, but the catch count is where his role pays off.

Patrick Mahomes also needs somebody to throw to. Travis Kelce is still there, but with Rice out the target tree is thin, and Worthy is the most reliable option in the building. Five catches on a short-area diet is very doable, even at the juiced price.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Anytime Touchdown (+125 at DraftKings)

Every betting article this week will point to Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s yardage prop, and we get it. He leads the league with 49 catches, 66 targets, 717 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. Instead of laying a heavy number on yards, we are taking the touchdown at plus money. At +125, the implied probability is about 44%, and a player who has found the end zone seven times in six games deserves a price that short.

The matchup leans Seattle’s way, too. Kansas City lost both of its starting cornerbacks in free agency, and Smith-Njigba is the type of route runner who can win inside and outside. The Chiefs’ defense is excellent overall, ranking third in EPA per play and forcing nine turnovers in five games, but Seattle needs its offense to live through its star.

In a game with a 42.5 total, touchdowns will be hard to come by. When the points are scarce, you want to back the player who gets the first look in the scoring zone. That is Smith-Njigba.

The Card for Sunday Night

This is a slate full of storylines, but the best bets are the ones that lean on role and volume rather than narrative. Here is how we are playing it.

  • Kenneth Walker III OVER 3.5 receptions (+129, DraftKings)
  • Xavier Worthy OVER 4.5 receptions (-114, DraftKings)
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba anytime touchdown (+125, DraftKings)
