Ocean Casino Resort Expects Full Reopening Tuesday After Fire, Flooding Shut Down Atlantic City Gaming Floor

Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City expects to resume full gambling operations Tuesday, a day after a fire and flooding from a burst pipe forced the property to shut down its slots, table games, and sports betting. The casino said the exact restart time Tuesday had not yet been determined as cleanup and repair work continued.

The trouble began early Monday morning when a fire broke out in a linen closet at the property. Firefighters responded and worked to extinguish the blaze, but the water used during suppression efforts triggered a burst pipe and heavy water flow through multiple sections of the building. The flooding caused a significant portion of the lobby ceiling to collapse and also affected elevator shafts and back-of-house hallways.

Casino Floor Shut Down, Amenities Stayed Open

Ocean Casino Resort confirmed no injuries were reported. The Atlantic City Fire Department said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. In a statement posted to social media, the casino said gaming — including slot machines, table games, and its New Jersey sportsbook operations — would not be available “due to unforeseen circumstances regarding a water pipe burst and resulting damage.”

Despite the shutdown of the gaming floor, the property continued to operate at limited capacity for hotel guests. Restaurants, pools, and other amenities remained open throughout the disruption. Ocean did cancel its scheduled $30,000 slot tournament, which had been set to run from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, and relocated its Avila Lounge service to TopGolf for the day.

Full Reopening Expected Tuesday

Ocean spokeswoman Becky Thiry said the casino plans to restart its slot machines, table games, and sports betting operations at some point Tuesday, though the precise timing was still being finalized as crews wrapped up cleanup and assessed the damage. The incident marks a rare full-day gaming shutdown for one of Atlantic City’s busiest casino resorts, coming at a time when the market continues to see steady visitation and competition among the city’s licensed sportsbooks and New Jersey casino apps. Ocean management said it would continue posting updates online as the situation develops.
