Iowa’s newest and largest casino investment is getting to the party early. Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center in Cedar Rapids will now open in mid-November, roughly six weeks ahead of its original New Year’s Eve 2026 target, according to an announcement made Thursday at NewBo City Market.
The $275 million project, developed by Peninsula Pacific Entertainment, represents the single largest casino investment in state history. Alongside the accelerated timeline, the company also revealed the first wave of acts for its entertainment venue, giving Cedar Rapids a firmer look at what the property will offer once its doors open.
Ahead of Schedule and Ready to Roll
Cedar Crossing will feature 700 slot machines, 22 table games, and a 1,500-seat entertainment venue once it opens. Peninsula Pacific Entertainment’s chief development officer, Stefan Huba, credited the early finish to strong planning and local execution. “We have been fortunate to partner with many Iowa contractors and trade unions to work on the build of Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center,” Huba said. “A strong plan, good architecture, strategic procurement, local labor and favorable weather have helped keep work ahead of schedule.”
The project has been closely watched since the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission awarded its gaming license in February 2025. Developers have provided regular updates on construction progress, and as recently as this past November were still targeting a New Year’s Eve grand opening. Moving that date up to mid-November instead gives the property a jump on the busy holiday season and an earlier revenue runway heading into 2027.
What It Means for Iowa’s Gaming Market
Cedar Crossing adds a significant new option to a market that already features a mix of established riverboat and land-based casinos across the state. The addition of a 1,500-seat entertainment venue positions the property to compete not just for gaming dollars but for concert and event traffic in the Cedar Rapids corridor, a market that hasn’t previously had a venue of that scale tied directly to a casino resort.
For Iowa bettors and casino visitors, the earlier opening means a new option lands right in the heart of the college football and early NFL playoff push, rather than debuting on New Year’s Eve as originally planned. With hiring for hourly positions expected in the weeks leading up to launch, the project is also positioned as a notable local jobs boost for the Cedar Rapids area heading into the final months of the year. Bettors keeping tabs on Iowa sportsbooks should expect Cedar Crossing’s opening to be one of the bigger regional gaming stories of the fall.
