BetRivers has entered the record books with a towering new attraction at West Edmonton Mall, unveiling a 16-foot slot machine that now holds a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest slot machine ever built. The massive installation, which stands 4.88 metres tall, took roughly four weeks to construct and was officially certified during a launch event hosted by Canadian broadcaster and BetRivers brand ambassador Dan O’Toole.

The record-setting slot machine marks BetRivers’ entry into Alberta’s newly regulated igaming market, and the operator wasted no time making a splash. GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator Tina Shi was on hand to formally recognize the achievement, giving the brand a viral marketing moment as it looks to establish itself among Canadian casino apps north of the border.

A Bold Statement for a New Market

Rush Street Interactive, the parent company behind BetRivers, framed the giant slot machine as more than just a gimmick. CEO Richard Schwartz said the record reflects the brand’s broader strategy in the province. “This new record is a great representation of BetRivers’ focus on being the ultimate online casino destination for Alberta gaming enthusiasts,” Schwartz said. “Canada is an important market for BetRivers, and we are thrilled to be operating in the province. Our focus on entertainment and our slots-first approach have really resonated with players, and we wanted to bring that to new heights in Alberta.”

The timing lines up with BetRivers’ broader push into Canadian igaming, following its regulated launch in Alberta earlier in July. Slots have long been a centerpiece of the BetRivers product, and the operator is clearly leaning into that identity as it competes for market share against established rivals in a province that only recently opened its doors to regulated online betting and casino gaming.

Gold Rush Theme and a Real Gold Bar on the Line

To coincide with the launch, BetRivers transformed a section of West Edmonton Mall into a gold rush-themed activation complete with interactive experiences and prizes for visitors. Guests 18 and older can pan for gold or take a spin on the world’s largest slot machine for a shot at winning a gold bar worth C$6,000 (roughly US$4,259). The activation is scheduled to run through the end of December, giving the mall’s foot traffic an extended window to experience the installation.

Brian Sapp, Chief Marketing Officer at Rush Street Interactive, tied the stunt back to the company’s broader entertainment philosophy. “Entertainment is infused into everything we do, and this record and activation are the latest examples of that,” Sapp said. “Whether you are taking the world’s largest slot machine for a spin or interacting with the exclusive slot titles on our platform, we focus on making every moment entertaining and rewarding.”

What Comes Next

BetRivers said the Alberta launch is being backed by a multi-channel marketing campaign built around O’Toole, spanning television, out-of-home advertising, digital, radio, sponsored content, and influencer partnerships. The western and gold rush-themed concept is designed to introduce the brand to a new audience while reinforcing its online casino identity in a market where competition for player attention is intensifying.

Perhaps more notably, Rush Street Interactive indicated this won’t be a one-off. The company said it plans to bring the world’s largest slot machine experience to additional casino markets across North America following its Alberta debut, suggesting the record-breaking cabinet could become a recurring marketing tool as BetRivers expands into new jurisdictions. For a brand competing against deep-pocketed rivals among online sportsbooks and casinos, a Guinness World Record and a life-changing gold bar giveaway are the kind of headline-grabbing moves that can cut through a crowded advertising landscape and get a new market talking.
