The Wolves will look for revenge tonight against an Oklahoma City Thunder defense that has forced 39 turnovers over the last two games. While Alex Caruso, SGA, Jalen Williams, and company are playing some of the best defense of the season, Anthony Edwards has been inching closer and closer to a takeover game.
I think we might get that tonight in a pivotal Game 2 matchup between the 2025 NBA MVP against the superstar who is looking to dethrone him in the Ant-Man.
The Wolves were in Game 1 until they weren’t. After a four-point halftime lead over OKC, who scored just 44 first-half points, Minnesota was outscored by 14 points in the 3rd period and 16 points in the final quarter to end up down 1-0 in this Western Conference Finals.
They showed up with a business-like approach, taking an early lead with McDaniels and Edwards leading the way. In Game 2, I’m expecting these two Wolves to have a more consistent second half and get Minnesota closer to the finish line and at least make this a competitive game.
Minnesota came back to defeat Golden State in Game 2 after losing the opener of that series. This squad will go better than 15/51 from beyond the arc and after 17 fairly careless turnovers, expect Finch to rally his squad and play a cleaner game tonight against an OKC team that shot 52.4% from beyond the arc in that Game 1 victory.
If Minnesota makes this game close or ends up stealing an away win, it will be due to Anthony Edwards’ shot-making. Edwards hasn’t fully taken over an entire game this postseason, but it feels like this moment has been brewing for quite some time now.
Game 2 away in Oklahoma City feels like the perfect storm for this to finally happen. Ant shot the ball just 13 times in Game 1 while playing under 40 minutes due to that mid-game injury. With additional minutes and additional shot-making opportunities, look for the Wolves star to bounce back in this one.
Jaden McDaniels might be the most important Timberwolves starter when it comes to playing on both ends of the floor. JD dropped 5 first-quarter points and then sort of disappeared after that period.
After averaging over 13 points and 5 boards in that Warriors series, McDaniels will need to get going tonight in Game 2 for Minnesota to have a shot at winning this pivotal game. Jaden has hit this prop in 7 of 11 games this postseason.
