After a 1-1 Thursday, we're now sitting at 35-27 with our baseball selections. Texas had no trouble covering the run line against Oakland as the Fade A's train kept chugging right along. Unfortunately, the Padres bullpen let us down for the second straight day by blowing a late lead against the Twins.
Here are 3 MLB Best Bets for Friday, May 12. Let's start the weekend off right with some winners! Good luck with all of your bets this weekend, everybody!
The Tigers have been playing some solid baseball of late, but we still rate them as one of the worst teams in baseball. The Mariners haven't lived up to expectations so far, but we expect them to be a Top 10 squad once they iron things out a bit more. Seattle will send Marco Gonzalez to the mound, and he's 2-0 this year with a 4.16 FIP.
Detroit will counter with Matthew Boyd, a young lefty with good stuff and lots of potential. Boyd's main problem, though, is that he gives up the long ball. He's allowed 5 homers in only 30.2 innings of work this season. Look for Teoscar Hernandez, who leads the M's with 7 home runs, to tee off on Boyd in this game.
The bullpen situation definitely favors Seattle. Mariner relievers have a combined ERA of 2.83, which is one of the best in MLB. Detroit's bullpen ERA is currently sitting at 4.07. We'll play the M's at this short number!
Here is a classic case of the oddsmakers putting too much stock into starting pitching. Sure, Logan Allen has much better numbers than Tyler Anderson, but Cleveland doesn't have enough offense to be the favorite in this game. The Guardians rank dead last in runs scored, OPS, and homers.
On the other side of the coin, the Angels rank 8th in runs, batting average, and OPS. They also rank 5th in homers. Los Angeles is hitting .274 against lefties, while Cleveland is batting .213 versus them. That's a huge edge for the Halos.
Allen has been good for Cleveland, but his hard-hit rate is at 46.8%. This means that Shohei Ohtani, Hunter Renfroe, and Mike Trout could have a field day against this kid. Let's play the Angels at the nice underdog price.
Might as well ride the Fade A's horse until she bucks us off! Oakland would have a hard time beating some of the better AAA squads this season. Texas, on the other hand, has one of the best offensive teams in MLB (6.35 runs scored per 9 innings).
Not only is the offensive edge clearly in the Rangers' favor, but the starting pitching is as well. Martin Perez will be going for Texas, and he's 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA this season. Ken Waldichuk will be starting for Oakland, and his FIP is currently at 7.67!!!
The bullpen edge also goes to Texas in this one. Look for Adolis Garcia, who leads the Rangers in both HR and RBI, to come up big in this game. Let's play the run line with Texas!
