2 MLB Best Bets for Thursday, April 27

After a 2-3 day yesterday, we're ready to bounce back strong. We had winners on the Blue Jays and Braves, which was nice to see. Toronto won in blowout fashion, and Atlanta made a nice little late comeback to down Miami.

Unfortunately, we lost with the Mariners, Red Sox, and Dodgers. The most heartbreaking of these was Seattle, as their stellar bullpen blew a late lead to Philadelphia. It's a game of inches, and the breaks haven't gone in our favor of late.

Anyway, it's time to put yesterday in the rearview mirror! Check out our 2 MLB Best Bets for Thursday, April 27. Let's cash both of these! Best of luck with your action.

Best Bet: Orioles (-148)

Don't look now, but this Baltimore team is 16-8 and has won 8 of their last 10 ball games. Detroit, on the other hand, is 9-14 and really struggling offensively. We like fading the Tigers in this spot, especially since they rank dead last in runs scored, batting average, and OPS.

Baltimore's bats should be able to tee off on Detroit starter Joey Wentz, who is 0-3 this season with a FIP of 5.44. The Orioles are averaging 6.75 runs per 9 innings off of lefties, which is a nice stat in our favor. We also like that Baltimore starter Kyle Gibson is 4-0 with a 3.60 ERA on the season.

Another huge edge in the O's favor is their bullpen. Baltimore relievers have put up some incredible numbers so far in 2023 (2.78 ERA / 1.10 WHIP). Detroit's pen hasn't been terrible, but their ERA is sitting at 4.14. Let's lay the medium price with Baltimore!

Best Bet: Rays (-143)

Anytime we can get Shane McClanahan at under -150, we're jumping on it. This kid is pretty close to unhittable when he's on his game. The crafty lefty has a FIP of only 2.93 and a hard-hit rate of only 33.8%. McClanahan shouldn't have any trouble mowing down a White Sox lineup that only hits .214 against lefties.

Chicago will send Dylan Cease to the hill, and he's done very well this season with a 2-0 record and an ERA of only 2.73. That being said, we're expecting some regression, as his hard-hit rate is a whopping 48.5%. That probably won't bode well against a Tampa Bay offense that leads MLB in home runs and OPS!

Even if Cease does keep the White Sox in the ball game, the Chicago bullpen has been an absolute nightmare this season. They have a bloated ERA of 6.09 and a WHIP of 1.70. Tampa Bay's pen, on the other hand, has an ERA of only 2.49 and a WHIP of 1.04. Let's ride the Rays train!
