Keith Mitchell OVER Sam Burns (-115)
We like this matchup for Keith Mitchell here. Sam Burns is coming off back-to-back missed cuts at the Players and the Valspar. His best finish of the season came back at the Sentry months ago. He has really struggled this season on his approach shots.
He is currently 171st on Tour in strokes gained in that area. He has only played this event once in the last 4 years, which came in 2021 when he missed the cut.
Tommy Fleetwood OVER Patrick Cantlay (-130)
Tommy has been consistent all season to date. His worst finish was as a tie for 22nd back at Pebble, and he has since finished inside the Top 20 in each of his 4 subsequent starts. He is 4th on Tour in total strokes gained and was strong last year here at the Valero, where he finished 7th.
He faces Cantlay in this matchup, who has not competed at this track in the last 4 years. While Cantlay has been having a good season, we like the fact that Tommy has the course history in his favor here.
Top 20 Finish: Akshay Bhatia (+140)
Akshay is currently Top 10 on Tour in strokes gained putting and 20th in total strokes gained. He most recently finished in a tie for 3rd at the Players. He also has 2 top 10 finishes already this year and has had some success here at the Valero.
He is the defending champion after winning the event last season. He has what it takes to contend once again, and his game looks to be in the proper form to do just that this week.
Top 20 Finish: Denny McCarthy (+150)
Denny has yet to miss a cut this season and has 5 top 20 finishes in his last 7 events. He is playing some of his best golf in his career. He is inside the Top 30 on Tour in strokes gained via putting and approach, as well as overall.
He finished 18th in 2023 and was runner-up to Bhatia last year. We like him to continue his Top 20 streak here and at plus money; the value is just right.
Top 20 Finish: Keith Mitchell (+190)
Mitchell has played in the Valero twice over the last 4 years, and both times he found his way inside the Top 20. He is coming off a Top 20 finish in his last start, which came at the Houston Open just last week.
He is 5th on Tour in strokes gained off the tee and 33rd overall in strokes gained. We love the value here on Mitchell.
Top 40 Finish: Andrew Putnam (+115)
While Putnam’s recent form has not been great, having missed the cut in his last 2 starts, we believe he can turn things around here at the Valero. After finishing 41st in 2022, he better his finish with a 28th place finish in 2023.
Better yet, he had his best finish last year when he finished 14th. This is a track he has continually gotten better and we like this spot for him to turn things around.
