The PGA Tour heads south on February 22nd for the 2024 Mexico Open. Tony Finau is the heavy favorite, and he will be looking to defend his title. Nicolai Hojgaard and Keith Mitchell should also be in the mix, according to multiple sportsbooks.
We've analyzed the entire board and have found 8 best bets for you to consider making. Let's cash some tickets, folks! Good luck!
Tony is coming off a tie for 19th last week at the Genesis and has successfully made the cut in all 5 of his starts this season. He is matched with Nicolai Hojgaard this week who started his season off with a runner-up finish at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Here at the Mexico Open, Tony’s results have been eye popping. He was runner-up in 2022 and bettered that with a win last year. This course also played host to the 2020 PGA Championship and Tony finished 4th in that event.
Hojgaard only competed last year and finished in a modest 33rd. We normally do not play anyone to finish inside the Top 10, but Finau’s results are too much to pass up on.
Like Finau, Brandon Wu has been near the very top of the leaderboard at the Mexico Open in both of his starts. He finished 3rd last season and was runner-up in 2022.
He is facing Ryan Fox who is making his Mexico Open debut. On the season, Wu has been hit or miss as he has only made the cut 50% of the time. His best finish was his season opener at the Sony Open when he finished 18th.
Fox is also 50% on cuts made this season as he missed at the Farmers and finished 41st. With Wu’s strong play here at Vidanta is reason enough to play him this week.
Jaeger has finished a best 3rd at the Farmers Insurance Open. He has made all his cuts on the year and is sitting in 14th on Tour in driving distance.
He faces off with Emiliano Grillo who should prove to be a very worthy opponent as he was able to finish 5th last season. He did struggle in 2022 and also at the PGA Championship in 2020.
We are hoping Grillo will play more like he did in the further past and that should bode well for Jaeger.
Rodgers has been the model of consistency here at Vidanta. He has gone back-to-back 10th place finishes. He already has 1 top 10 finishes this season and is 11th on Tour in greens in regulation.
He has Thompson here who will be making his Mexico Open debut this week. He has played some decent golf this season, but it is likely to pale in comparison to Jaeger’s pay this week.
