College Baseball fans REJOICE! What I refer to as the most electric sport is back in just 2 weeks! With the 2025 college baseball season just two weeks away, excitement is building for what promises to be another thrilling year.
From high-impact transfers and powerhouse recruiting classes to major coaching moves, here’s what to watch for this season. Our 2025 season preview is below. Enjoy!
The champs, Tennessee, added infielder Gavin Kilen from Louisville. He was the #3 rated transfer in the nation and hit .330 with 71 runs and 41 RBIs, while only striking out 9.4% of his appearances. They will be looking to go back-to-back and have a strong argument!
Arkansas added 2 incredibly talented players. First landing Zack Root, a standout from East Carolina that had a very solid starting rotation last season. He was rated the #2 transfer pitcher, registering a 3.56 ERA, 76 strikeouts with only 21 walks last season.
On the offensive side they added speedster Charles Davalan, who led off for Florida Gulf Coast last season. He comes to the Hogs slashing .288 with 10 home runs, 16 doubles, and 12 stolen bases.
LSU snagged a good one in senior Luis Hernandez, ranked the #10 catcher in the nation by D1Baseball. He comes from a solid Indiana State program where he hit .359 with 14 doubles, 23 home runs and 76 RBIs. This was a very strong add to this top 5 squad.
Several teams are adjusting to new conferences: Cal, Stanford, and SMU joined the ACC. Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah head to the Big 12. Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC join a solid Big Ten.
The SEC got even stronger adding 2 powerhouses in Texas and Oklahoma. One of the best programs, Oregon State, has opted for independence, which will allow them to build out their own schedule.
This postseason we saw some pretty big moves at good programs. Obviously, the biggest headline was Jim Schlossnagle leaving Texas A&M, after their College World Series loss, for rival Texas. Rather than staying at A&M to run it back, with a squad that is one of the favorites to win it, he leaves for a competitor. This was a massive story in itself!
Other major changes include Paul Mainieri returning to coaching at South Carolina after a brief retirement stint. This was a massive hire for a South Carolina team looking for improvement after going 13-17 in conference. Mitch Hannahs leaving a top end Indiana State program to take over at South Florida.
Last season saw Tennessee beat Texas A&M for the title, while UNC and Florida State also made runs to the final four. I 100% believe Texas A&M and Tennessee can both get back to this same exact spot this season. And while UNC and Florida State are on my short list to get back to the College World Series, there are a slew of teams banging at the door!
LSU, Virginia, Arkansas, Oregon, and Oregon St are all on my list to make a postseason push. LSU, Arkansas, and Texas A&M were rated as 3 of the highest teams with the best transfer portals and I do believe that will matter as the portal continues to play key parts in every sport.
My sleepers for this season I keep close to home. I have been a fan of DBU for years and I will continue to back them to make a run to the CWS. Indiana is looking to make the postseason for the 3rd straight time, and both UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine have a shot to make it this season as mid-majors!
