SugarHouse Review: Solid Sportsbook App with Great Odds and Customer Support

SugarHouse Sportsbook announced that it would be shutting down its Connecticut operations in December 2023. Given Connecticut was the only market SugarHouse was live in, the brand is no longer offering sports betting in the U.S. It is worth noting that BetRivers, the sister-brand to SugarHouse, will remain live in the 15 markets in which it currently operates.

The announcement came as little surprise given CT Lottery had already named Fanatics Sportsbook as its new sports betting provider.

Current players have until February 19, 2024, to withdraw all funds from their accounts. Any future bets on events that occur after the Super Bowl will be credited to your account following the game.

Details for Current SugarHouse SportsBook Review

SugarHouse and BetRivers offer sports bettors a ton of reasons to call them their primary book. That being said, their market share is not yet on par with just how solid of a sportsbook this is, particularly when you consider SugarHouse and BetRivers are already live in nine US states.

But is market share something you're after or do you want to start making cash? With this ridiculous SugarHouse welcome bonus you can start getting into betting markets with the top betting site. So why wait?

Let's take a look at some of the pros and cons of the current version of the SugarHouse Sportsbook website and app. After all, you want to make sure you're making the right choice when signing up for this bonus offer.

Is SugarHouse Casino and BetRivers Casino the same?

While they may look identical, they are two different entities. Some may call them sister sites.

SugarHouse is licensed, regulated and operated in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, while Bet Rivers is owned by Rush Street Interactive and has a license to operate in several US states.

In fact, you can navigate to the other site from either. So you can enjoy the same great welcome bonus offer from both sites if you'd like, it just depends on which state you're in. So if you're in New Jersey, you would go to the BetRivers casino site, but if you're in Connecticut, then you'd go to the SugarHouse casino.

SugarHouse SportsBook Pros

As we mentioned in the open, there are plenty of reasons to love SugarHouse. Whether you're a hardcore player in online sports betting or you like to get into the exciting casino games, they have everything you're after.

Here are four reasons to make SugarHouse your primary sportsbook in New Jersey:

  • New Player Promotions - While you will never find the highest deposit bonus at SugarHouse, there are reasons to love their promotions. The big one is the player-friendly terms attached to all of their promo codes. This includes an industry-low 1x rollover requirement. You can always find their latest offer on our SugarHouse promo code directory. We've seen online sports betting sites with rollovers as high as 25x! Now you see what makes the SugarHouse online sportsbook special.

  • Existing Player Promotions - SugarHouse and BetRivers are amongst the few books that offer existing player promotions for every state. These include both odds boost opportunities and reduced juice opportunities. What does this mean for you as a bettor? More winnings. What more could a sportsbook offer than a higher payout for making the same wager on their sportsbook vs a competitor's book? Of course, you do! The SugarHouse odds will smack the other sportsbooks down!

  • Customer Support - Customer support is another area that SugarHouse really excels. They offer support by phone, email, and chat. Ticket response times are extremely low, and the support team truly seems like player advocates. This means quick resolutions to all of the common issues that sports bettors face both before and after a bet locks. And if you're into live betting options, then you know how critical good and timely support is.

  • Casino and Poker - While bettors may not consider anything beyond the sportsbook, it is worth considering if your book offers an online casino and poker app. The SugarHouse casino app is one of the best in the industry. Unlike many of the bigger names in the sports betting industry, SugarHouse's roots are in the casino industry and it shows with the website and app. They offer a massive library of live casino games to choose from, live dealer games, poker, and more. The SugarHouse casino is a really polished experience and we think you'll enjoy their casino games.

SugarHouse SportsBook Pros and Cons

SugarHouse Sportsbook Cons

As obvious as the pros to betting on the SugarHouse sportsbook are, the cons are just as visible. While we think the pros vastly outweigh the cons, it is worth noting what is wrong with the product before opening an account.

That's why we always put out the pros and cons for every online casino and online sportsbook review.

  • Conservative Betting Options - One of the clear areas SugarHouse trails leader FanDuel, DraftKings, and even PointsBet is in a variety of lines available. They tend to have fewer player props, future bets, and exotic bets available. If you are a bettor who tends to focus on a spread, moneyline, total, and basic player props this will not be an issue for you. However, if you want something a little fancier, like quarter-line bets or daily fantasy sports, SugarHouse is not the place for you.

  • Website and App Design - This is the first issue that jumps out to most sportsbook users. While other companies have gone with modern, clean designs, SugarHouse feels more like a classic casino website and app. This does not make the app more difficult to use but does matter to a lot of today's bettors. Luckily, you can browse the sportsbook, use the bet slip system, and even pull up live betting prior to opening a new account. This allows you to have a better understanding of their sports betting experience before diving into the SugarHouse sportsbook app.

  • No Fantasy Product - Ovbiously this is really getting picky, but it is nice to be able to move between the sportsbook and daily fantasy products on FanDuel and DraftKings. Furthermore, with Yahoo Fantasy expected to move into the sports betting industry this summer, it becomes an even bigger issue for SugarHouse. They could easily add a fantasy product but at this point, it seems unlikely many players would use it unless they somehow found a niche in the market (similar to what Underdog Fantasy has done recently). All of the SugarHouse sports betting enthusiasts will have to go elsewhere for their DFS.

What SugarHouse Bettors are Saying

An important thing to consider when comparing other sportsbooks are the opinions of their current player pool. Most people will give an honest sportsbook review in the app store, but there are some hesitations on these which we'll cover momentarily.

We've compiled reviews and ratings for SugarHouse Sportsbook across both the App Store and Play Store.

Our team picked through hundreds of SugarHouse reviews to find out what current players think are the best and worst features in the sports betting app.

It is worth noting that online reviews tend to swing more negatively than positively by nature, so an aggregate rating of 2.9 would still be considered slightly above average.

Why is that? Because most people leaving a sportsbook review are only going to do so when they're fed up with something. Whether the app itself isn't working properly or they're just not cut out for some betting markets, that's when they'll leave a negative review. Very rarely will those who are happy with their experience leave a review.

Comparing odds and juice to other sports betting sites.

As was the case with DraftKings, we feel obligate to clarify this rating is not a reflection of the variety of sports and odds at SugarHouse. Most US sports bettors will find every bet they are looking for on the SugarHouse sportsbook. The issue is once you find that bet and it cashes, you win less money than you would at some competing sportsbooks.

To confirm this we reviewed the odds for 50 different sporting events and compared them with each of our sportsbook partners. SugarHouse's juice was significantly higher across the majority of those bets. Every major US sportsbook offers the same bets and the same bet types, so juice is one of the few ways we can differentiate one book from another.

Our process for each matchup was to look at the moneyline, spread, and total for both teams. We then took an average of the juice percentages associated with each bet type. Then we compare their juice with that in the SugarHouse sportsbook app and that tells us how they're doing in various sporting events.

Unfortunately, SugarHouse doesn't compete well against the top sportsbooks when it comes to juice. While they offer competitive lines, their juice is consistently higher than other books across all major sporting events.
