NBA Betting Odds FAQ

Have questions about NBA betting odds and how they work? We can help! Our team has assembled the following FAQ section to give you quick answers to some of the most basic odds questions.

Whether you're a new NBA bettor or even a seasoned veteran, we hope you find this section helpful. Best of luck!

How are NBA betting odds calculated?

NBA betting odds are set using a combination of mathematical computer models and some of the brightest oddsmakers in the world. Factors like travel, injuries, and each team's tendencies are all taken into consideration by the bookmakers before posting the odds.

Why do NBA betting odds seem to move so violently closer to gametime?

The odds on any given NBA game can move quite a bit as key information becomes available to the betting public. Most of the time, when you see a point spread or a game total move more than a couple of points, it means a key player is probably injured and not playing in the game.

What is the standard juice for NBA sides and totals?

Most sportsbooks use a standard -110 juice on both NBA sides and totals. This means that you'll have to bet $110 to win $100. Basically the sportsbooks charge 10% juice (or vigorish) to book your wager. If action is equal on both sides of the game, the sportsbook will profit 10%.

What strategies can NBA bettors use to minimize the impact of juice on their bets?

One way to limit the damage caused by excessive juice is to set up as many sportsbook accounts as possible. By doing so, NBA bettors can shop at each book to look for the best price (the place with the lowest juice). It's not uncommon to find -105 or -107 at some sportsbooks instead of the standard -110 juice.

Why is the juice more expensive on NBA player prop bets than traditional sides and totals?

Sportsbooks usually charge more juice on player props because they aren't as confident in their prop predictions. Because of this, sportsbooks will often charge -115 juice on player props instead of the -110 you might see on sides. In essence, books charge more juice to account for the greater amount of variance.

What role do statistics and data analysis play in setting NBA odds?

The betting odds for NBA games are heavily influenced by each team's statistical profile. For example, if a game involves two bad defensive squads, the books will likely increase the point total of that game by a certain amount. Most of the standard stats are already "baked into" the current point spread or game total.

What are some reputable sources for finding and comparing NBA betting odds?

Our Odds Tool can quickly help you find the sportsbook with the best price on all NBA sides and game totals. Our tool takes into account not just the line, but the juice as well.
