Best Bets for the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship

Best Bets for the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship
By Bill Christy on May 4, 2022

What a weekend we had on the links at the Mexico Open. Taylor Moore missed the cut for us at plus money and Cameron Champ finished well inside the Top 40. Chris Kirk was a letdown over Aaron Wise but we made up for it by hitting our 3-Ball play on Gary Woodland who defeated Kevin Na and Sebastian Munoz.

This weekend we get a field with more firepower and the same amount of value. That said, let’s dive right in and find us some more winners for this weekend’s tournament. All of the following bets were placed at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Best Bet to MISS the Cut: Troy Merritt +150

Merritt has an absolutely terrible track record at Quail Hollow. He has made the cut just once over all of his previous starts.

The plus money is seen as a value here but let’s not get it twisted, Merritt has been playing decent this season. He has made 11 cuts in 14 starts this year, but with his shaky history at the Wells Fargo, we will take our chances on seeing him leaving early on Friday afternoon.

Best Bet to MAKE the Cut: Jhonatton Vegas -145

Juicy? Yes, but with 3 straight made cuts to go along with 10 in his 13 starts this year, we will bite the bullet and sip the juice. Vegas made the cut the last 3 years, including an 8th place finish in 2019.

2020 was canceled due to Covid, but the way Vegas has been playing at Quail Hollow, we believe he will be hanging around the course on Saturday and Sunday.

Best Bet for Top 40 Finish: Brian Harman +110

Harman has made the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship in 5 straight starts. Those made cuts include an outright win in 2017.

The last 2 years, Harman has been inside the top 25 in both starts and has just one finish outside the Top 40 here in 2018 (74th). We like Harman to finish inside the top 30, but to still get him at plus money here, feels a bit safer.

Best Tournament 3-Ball Bet: Rory McIlroy OVER Corey Conners & Russell Henley +140

Rory is the defending champion here but that is not the main reason we like him in this spot. Over his 10 career starts in the Wells Fargo Championship, Rory has more wins (3) than missed cuts (1).

There are not many golfers that have that type of dominance over a course. His worst finish when making the cut is 16th. Conners and Henley are formidable opponents, but Rory is just too dominant at Quail Hollow.
