Week 0 of college football kicks off on August 27 so we are only a few days away from getting real football. Because of this, we figured it was the perfect time to take a look at the CFB Futures market to capture some value for our betting portfolio. Here are 7 college football futures bets for 2022-23.
At WynnBet Sportsbook
Clemson has the 3rd shortest odds of every team to win their conference. They trail only Alabama and Ohio State in that department. The Tigers will sport one of if not the best defensive lines in the country along with a very capable secondary.
With the defense being the strength, DJ Uiagalelei will need to be better than last year and will likely lean on Will Shipley in the backfield. Even a small increase in production will benefit the top defense in the country and give the Tigers a chance at the playoff this season. With the lack of true threats within the conference, the Tigers seem like the safest bet to make the playoff.
Coach Whittingham has top rusher Tavion Thomas back along with Cameron Rising as the signal caller. Kuithe and Kincaid are possibly the best tight-end duo in the country and will give the receivers plenty of 1 on 1 opportunities downfield.
The defense will return 5 starters and the pedigree of Utah’s typically stout defense will be on full display again in 2022. They get tested in week 1 at the swamp against the Gators and even a loss there will not end their hopes as the rest of the season is an opportunity to run the table.
As a fan of the maize and blue, it does pain me to make this selection. However, at the end of the day, green is the only color that matters and the Buckeyes have the best shot to get the job done in 2022.
CJ Stroud will lead one of the most potent offenses in the country through a lower-tier Big 10 and get to the promised land. Alabama or Georgia is likely to be their adversary in the title game and Ohio State will be a short dog there.
We got Clemson as our best bet to make the playoffs so it makes sense to grab the value of 12:1 here on them to win the whole thing. If they are able to sneak into the national title final, the hedging opportunity will be abundant and we would suggest doing just that. The defense will have the ability to get them there, but we will see how DJ and the offense progresses.
Let's take a quick look at the previous six winners & their opening odds:
With the exception of Mayfield, the Heisman fav has not faired well, and a long shot has made folks some serious coin. Bryce Young was not the favorite last year, that honor was given to Spencer Rattler, who never lived up to expectations. Here's who we like for this prestigious award in 2022-23.
Young is in a familiar spot again this season in multiple ways. First, he is behind center again at Alabama where they are one of the top favorites to win the national title. Second, he is in the spot behind the Heisman fav again this year as CJ Stroud has swapped spots with Spencer Rattler from last year.
It is not easy for a player to win the honors in back-to-back years, but the way Alabama plays, Young will certainly be in the mix all season long.
Gabriel was putting up some incredible numbers at UCF before his injury. Writers love a good story and what a story it would be to have Gabriel come back and help lead Oklahoma the year after their head coach bolted for USC and took the starting QB with him. Oh, and last season’s Heisman fav also bolted from the program at the end of the previous year.
Fanduel has his odds down at +2500 so to be able to grab Uiagalelei at this number on WynnBet was a no-brainer. Clemson has the talent and schedule to allow them to make a run at the national title and DJ will be leading the offense all season. We simply cannot pass up this value play.
